What I learned most from both experiences is that success doesn’t come easy, and you only get out what you put in (no matter what it is), but at least you never have regrets when you know you gave something 100%.
ORBIS CORPORATION COMMUNITY ACTION TEAM PROFESSIONAL
To work with such a prestigious organization that embodies everything I believe in as a professional is a dream come true! I look forward to the wonderful things we will continue to do at NAF in partnership with the brilliant students, families, and communities we work with.īeginning in the third grade, I had two primary ambitions in life – becoming a member of the KISS Army (official card-carrying devotees of the rock band KISS) and competing on the professional bowlers’ tour, passions that haven’t wavered much over the course of my lifetime. Casey Foundation, justice was consistently front and center. Whether President and COO of the Center for Policing Equity, a social justice organization that uses science, data and equity strategies to improve public safety for marginalized communities, or at the United Way, National Capital Area where, as Vice President of Community Engagement and Impact, I developed the organization’s overarching strategic vision and oversaw the management of education, health and economic opportunity programming, or in a senior role at the Annie E. I’ve been blessed to have professional opportunities that have always centered social justice, young people and community. It’s at UofC where I honed and refined my craft and I’ll forever be grateful for that experience.

It was a great experience and I credit CAU with providing the basis for what would become my social justice tool kit! From there, I attended the University of Chicago (UofC) which provided me with the research and evidence-based skill sets that really operationalized my foundation. I chose CAU because it had a strong focus on social justice, the strengths-based perspective and advocacy. That realization led me into the field of social work and to Clark Atlanta University (CAU).

I wanted to have a more direct impact on young people self-actualizing and realizing their goals. I originally wanted to be a clinical psychologist, but soon realized that psychological testing wasn’t for me. I went to school outside my neighborhood in a more affluent school district and saw the disparities in funding, resources and support firsthand! These early experiences influenced my more than 25-year journey in the public and private sectors, building successful and sustainable programs and policies for young people and communities throughout my career. As a youth, I would often notice systemic inequity in my community, and it was most pronounced in my educational journey. I was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York and ever since I can remember equity was my passion.

I moved through different functions in the organization COO then President.

I then served as Vice President of Marketing & Communications and led a full rebranding of the national organization and was responsible for planning, executing, delivering, and evaluating all aspects of marketing & communications.

In 2012 I applied these skills to the nonprofit world by coming to NAF as a consultant to help use student data to tell the NAF story. This gave me a great deal of experience affecting change within organizations large and small, but also made me realize that I wanted to use my experience to help make a difference.

I went on to receive my MBA at Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, where I developed strategic, marketing, and analytical skills that I applied to management consulting, with projects spanning a range of industries and functions often with a data-driven solution. Fittingly, my career began in the fashion industry at Chanel developing marketing strategies using customer data. After starting pre-med and changing my major three times at Cornell University, I graduated with a major in Marketing and a minor in Fashion.
